why water?

For people in developing countries, clean water can change everything.

Clean water changes everything.

Health

Diseases from dirty water kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.

Time

In Africa alone, women spend 40 billion hours a year walking for water.

Education

Clean water helps keep kids in school, especially girls.

Women empowerment

Women are responsible for 72% of the water collected in Sub-Saharan Africa.

785 million people in the world live without clean water.

That’s nearly 1 in 10 people worldwide. Or, twice the population of the United States. The majority live in isolated rural areas and spend hours every day walking to collect water for their family. Not only does walking for water keep children out of school or take up time that parents could be using to earn money, but the water often carries diseases that can make everyone sick.

What are we?

Our organization buys life straws and helps families across the world to get access to clean water. We are dedicated to help families get access to clean drinking water so that they can stay healthy.

Every $1 invested in clean water can yield $4–$12 in economic returns.

It’s a solid investment; access to clean water is perhaps the single most powerful tool for sparking economic growth that humanity has ever known.

Raising general awareness

Science clearly states that a human being can survive three weeks without food, but where water is concerned most people can’t go on 3-4 days without it! Dehydration sets in, and even if the person continues to breathe, they will go into shock and become vegetative. In other words, water is the primary necessity. Without it, a living being simply cannot survive. Yet, it is a horrific fact that there are billions of people around the world who do not have access to clean drinking water.
